INDIA

India is a land of colors and contrasts. Love it or hate it, it cannot leave you indifferent. In the summer of 2002, I began my explorations of India from Calcutta to Rajasthan. Since then, I have made three more journeys to different regions: one to the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala; one to Pushkar, to attend the traditional camel fair and in April 2004; for a photo documentary in Ujjaïn (Madhya Pradesh) where was held the major religious festival, Kumbh Mela. These journies have transformed my curiosity for this vast country into a true passion.

Spirituality : ...................... ...[ 70 images ]

An immense river flows towards the ocean, taking with it scraps of paper, blades of straw. They could attemp to resist the current, but in the end, they will finish up drifting towards the ocean. In the same manner, you and me and the whole of nature are like blades of straw carried off by the violent currents towards the ocean of life, God's perfection. We can attempt to fight against the current, struggle up the river, use every available trick, but, at the end of the day, we still have to join the vast ocean of life and beatitude.

Indian faces : .............[ .. ....[ 60 images ]

The majority of the Indians whom I met are friendly and helpful. During my journies, I often had chance to talk with them. They told me about their lives, their Gods, their hopes and aspirations for the future, their stories are something I will always treasure. Many life are still beneath the poverty line. However, I have seen thier faces mostly marked by courage, dignity and the joy in life…

Streets and pavements :.....[ 70 images ]

Here, the street and the pavement are used for everything: bedrooms for some, kitchens for others, restaurants for most, but also hairdressers, vegetable sellers, pullers of teeth and shoe-shiners. Every corner has its specialities. They live, sleep and sometimes die here on the street, but there is always something interesting going on full of suprising colours and smells.
